Borders Community Action is delighted to announce the launch of its 2026/27 training programme, designed to support strong, sustainable and effective third sector organisations across the Scottish Borders.

The programme has been developed in direct response to feedback gathered through events, online sessions and the training needs survey over the past year. By listening carefully to members, Borders Community Action has built a programme that reflects real priorities and practical learning needs.

Training shaped by member feedback

Feedback from members highlighted the importance of accessible, relevant and practical training that can be applied directly within organisations. The 2026/27 programme brings together learning opportunities that support organisations at different stages, from early development through to long-term sustainability.

The programme focuses on building confidence, strengthening good practice and supporting organisations to respond to current challenges across the sector.

Increased focus on trustee development

This year sees an increased emphasis on training and guidance for trustees. Borders Community Action recognises the vital role trustees play in governance, leadership and accountability, and the programme places strong focus on developing skills and understanding in these areas.

Trustee-related training will explore topics such as:

  • Roles and responsibilities of trustees
  • Good governance and effective oversight
  • Strategic planning and organisational direction
  • Supporting sustainability and managing risk

By strengthening trustee knowledge and confidence, the programme aims to support well governed and resilient organisations across the region.

Building practical skills for sustainable organisations

Alongside trustee development, the training programme continues to offer support in the practical areas that underpin strong organisations.

Sessions will cover:

  • Funding and fundraising
  • Monitoring, evaluation and demonstrating impact
  • Financial management essentials
  • Understanding and managing organisational finances

These sessions are designed to help organisations plan effectively, manage resources well and clearly demonstrate the difference they make within their communities.

Free online learning for members

Borders Community Action would also like to remind members that training courses provided through the Third Sector Interface Learning Portal are free to members.

Available at tsi-learning.scot, the portal includes courses on:

  • Charity law
  • Health and safety
  • Human rights and equalities
  • Cyber security and staying safe online

These flexible online courses complement the Borders Community Action training programme and allow members to learn at a pace that suits them.
