The cross-sector No One Left Behind Communications Working Group has announced the launch of the first-ever Scottish Employability Day, taking place on 10th September 2026.
Bringing together partners from the Scottish Government, Local Government, Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA), the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Skills Development Scotland (SDS), Public Health Scotland, the third sector and people with lived experience, the initiative aims to create a dedicated annual opportunity to celebrate and promote employability services across Scotland.
Scottish Employability Day is intended to provide employability providers across all 32 local authority areas with a national focal point to:
The milestone will become a recurring annual event, helping to raise awareness of the role employability services play in supporting people to access opportunities and achieve positive outcomes.
While Local Employability Partnerships are encouraged to centre their activity around 10th September 2026, organisations are being given the flexibility to extend celebrations over a longer period or tailor their communications to reflect local priorities and achievements.
This approach will allow partners to highlight the unique strengths, projects and success stories taking place within their own communities while contributing to a wider national campaign.
Amelia Brooke, Employability Lead at Borders Community Action (BCA), welcomed the announcement:
“Establishing a national employability day allows us to highlight and celebrate the life-changing work of our third sector partners in the Borders. We encourage all local employability providers to take part in this national opportunity.”
The new initiative presents an opportunity to recognise the contribution of third sector organisations and partners working across the Scottish Borders to support individuals on their employment journeys.
Communications guidance is available by contacting [email protected]. Additional guidance and promotional toolkits are expected to be shared in advance of Scottish Employability Day to support local planning and communications activity.
Organisations interested in learning more about the initiative are encouraged to engage with their local employability networks and partnerships as preparations for the inaugural event continue.
