Description

Bavs (Berwickshire) Ltd is a local charity working to make Berwickshire a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient place to live.

At the heart of our work are our charity shops and Reuse Hub, where donated clothing, furniture, household goods and other items are given a new life. By making good-quality pre-loved goods available at affordable prices, we help household budgets go further while encouraging reuse and reducing the amount of usable material going to waste.

Our shops and Reuse Hub also provide meaningful volunteering opportunities. They offer people a welcoming environment in which to contribute to their community, build confidence, develop skills, gain experience and make social connections. Income generated through our activities is used to further our charitable purposes and support positive grassroots activity within Berwickshire.

Our charitable objectives reflect the broad community and environmental benefits we aim to achieve. Bavs exists to contribute to the prevention or relief of poverty; advance education; advance health; advance citizenship and community development; protect and improve the environment; and provide relief to people in need because of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.

We pursue these objectives through practical action: providing affordable alternatives to buying new; creating opportunities for volunteering, learning and employability; helping to reduce social isolation and promote wellbeing; supporting community activity; encouraging more sustainable choices; and keeping reusable goods and materials in circulation for longer.

Through this combination of reuse, volunteering, environmental responsibility and community benefit, Bavs aims to ensure that the value of donated goods stays within Berwickshire — benefiting local people, supporting local communities and helping to create a more sustainable future.
