Description

Cheviot Youth is an independent charity based in the Scottish Borders, dedicated to creating safe and welcoming spaces for young people aged 8 to 25. Their mission is to support the personal, social, and emotional development of young individuals, ensuring they feel heard, recognised, and empowered within their communities.

Established over 15 years ago, Cheviot Youth began as a community-led initiative and has since evolved into a trusted, award-winning organisation. With hubs in Kelso, Hawick, Galashiels and surrounding areas, they have become a cornerstone in reshaping how rural communities support their youth.

The charity offers a comprehensive range of services, including inclusive youth work and specialist psychological support. Their youth work encompasses drop-in sessions, clubs, and holiday programmes, providing creative activities, life skills groups, and safe spaces for young people to connect, contribute, and build confidence. In addition, their psychological services, delivered through Insight Youth, offer free, confidential counselling and psychotherapy to young individuals across the Borders. These services are trauma-informed, inclusive, and relationship-based, aiming to nurture mental health and emotional well-being.

Cheviot Youth serves a diverse group of young people, with 68% of their members coming from areas of highest deprivation. They engage with over 500 young individuals annually, providing support that not only addresses immediate needs but also fosters long-term resilience and community engagement. Their impact is evident in the improved confidence and coping abilities reported by the young people they serve.

Governed by a dedicated board of trustees and a committed leadership team, Cheviot Youth ensures robust governance and professional leadership. Their staff and volunteers are trained in safeguarding and trauma-informed practices, creating a safe and supportive environment for all participants.

Looking ahead, Cheviot Youth remains committed to expanding their services and deepening their impact, ensuring that every young person in the Scottish Borders has access to the support and opportunities they need to thrive.
