Description

Duns Rugby Football Club, affectionately known as ‘The Dingers’, is a community-focused rugby union club based in Duns, Scotland. Established in 1878, the club has a rich history of promoting rugby and fostering community spirit in the Scottish Borders. The nickname ‘The Dingers’ is derived from the town’s motto, “Duns Dings A” (Duns Beats All), reflecting the club’s deep-rooted connection to the local community.

Over the years, Duns RFC has been dedicated to providing rugby opportunities for all ages, from primary school children to adults. The club operates various youth teams in close cooperation with local schools, including Duns Minis and Youth Programme, which organise rugby at primary and early secondary school levels. Additionally, the club collaborates with Berwickshire High School and Eyemouth High School, supporting squads for various age groups and facilitating friendly matches. This collaborative approach ensures a clear pathway for young players to develop their rugby skills and confidence while making new friends and having fun.

The senior team competes in Division 3 of the East Regional League, playing their home games at Castle Park in Berwickshire. The club’s facilities have undergone significant development, including the acquisition and redevelopment of the old Berwickshire High School gymnasium into a new clubhouse. This facility boasts two large changing rooms, separate changing facilities for match officials, a medical room, a large social area, kitchen, dining room, and a conference/education suite.

Duns RFC is governed by a management committee that oversees the club’s operations and strategic direction. The club’s structure includes a full-time Development Officer who engages with all primary and secondary schools in Berwickshire, ensuring the growth and development of rugby at the grassroots level. The club’s commitment to community engagement and development is evident in its collaborative efforts with local schools and its focus on providing rugby opportunities for all ages.

Looking ahead, Duns RFC remains dedicated to expanding its reach and enhancing its contributions to the region. The club’s ongoing development projects and community initiatives aim to strengthen its impact and continue fostering a love for rugby in the Scottish Borders.
