Gala Waterways Group

Gala Waterways Group revitalises Galashiels' waterways by creating walking routes, cleaning the environment, and preserving industrial heritage. They meet regularly to prune trees, clear undergrowth, and remove rubbish along the Gala Water and Mill Lade. Their efforts enhance community engagement and environmental stewardship, fostering a cleaner, greener town. With continued support, they aim to expand their initiatives, further enriching Galashiels' natural beauty and heritage.

Description

Gala Waterways Groups aims to encourage access to, enjoyment and interest in and around the watercourses in Galashiels. We will enhance the natural environment, protect the industrial heritage, and create walking routes.

We were originally formed in 2006 as a sub-committee of Galashiels & Langlee Community Council, but became an unincorporated voluntary association in 2021.

Most of our project work involves rubbish and vegetation clearance.
