Description

Kelso Writers is a Scottish charity committed to nurturing creative writing skills and alleviating social isolation within the Scottish Borders community. Established in 2012, the organisation has consistently provided a supportive environment for individuals to explore and develop their writing abilities.

The organisation offers a range of low-cost workshops that cater to both beginners and experienced writers. These sessions encompass talks, ‘open mic’ events, and short story writing, fostering a collaborative and inclusive atmosphere. Workshops are held at the Abbey Row Community Centre in Kelso, with sessions scheduled on alternate Tuesday afternoons. Workshops are publicised in the local press and, on request, by email.

They’ve published more than 10 anthologies of participants short stories and poems, so that budding writers gain confidence by seeing their writing published.

Kelso Writers’ impact extends beyond skill development; it plays a vital role in reducing social isolation by bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds who share a passion for writing. The organisation’s inclusive approach ensures that everyone, regardless of experience level, feels welcome to participate.

Governed by a dedicated team, Kelso Writers operates as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SC049640), ensuring transparency and accountability in its operations. The organisation’s structure supports its mission to foster creativity and community engagement through the written word.

Looking ahead, Kelso Writers remains committed to expanding its offerings, continuing to provide valuable opportunities for personal growth and community connection through creative writing.

Kelso Writers also encourages school students to write, by running regular competitions and publishing their stories in anthologies.
