Campaign | Local

A new trail map is encouraging residents and visitors alike to explore Selkirk’s thriving reuse and second-hand shopping scene while supporting the circular economy.

Developed by The General Store, Selkirk and funded by South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE), the Selkirk’s Preloved Treasures Trail brings together eight locations across the town where people can browse for bargains, uncover unique finds and help extend the life of preloved items.

For a town of its size, Selkirk offers a remarkable range of opportunities to shop sustainably. The new trail makes it easier than ever for treasure hunters to discover everything from vintage clothing and books to furniture, textiles, electrical goods and creative materials.

The easy-to-follow map guides visitors between participating shops and organisations, creating an enjoyable route through the town while highlighting the many ways reuse and repair can benefit local communities and the environment.

A celebration of repair and reuse

The General Store, Selkirk has built its work around the principles of repair, reuse and reducing waste. By bringing together other second-hand retailers and reuse organisations in the town, the trail showcases the strength of Selkirk’s circular economy and encourages more people to think differently about the items they buy.

The eight stops featured on the trail are:

  1. The General Store – Claes & Curios – Vintage clothes and homeware
  2. The General Store – Repairmonger – Refurbished electrical goods
  3. Hislops – Furniture, bric a brac and electricals
  4. The General Store – Trading Post – Clothes, shoes and bric a brac
  5. Scott’s Selkirk – Books
  6. The Fabric Hub – Vintage textiles
  7. The General Store – Restore – Small furniture, homeware and a pay what you want Rummage Room
  8. The Borders Scrapstore – Art, crafts and textiles

Together, these destinations offer a wide variety of preloved goods including clothing, homeware, furniture, books, textiles, arts and crafts materials and refurbished electrical items.

Make a day of it

Visitors are encouraged to spend a day exploring the trail, stopping off at local cafes and businesses along the way. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays offer the best opportunity to find most locations open, although opening times can vary and shoppers should check individual social media pages before travelling.

Whether searching for a specific item, hunting for a bargain or simply enjoying a leisurely wander around the town, the trail offers a sustainable and affordable way to shop.

Find the trail

Download the Selkirk’s Preloved Treasures Trail map to explore eight reuse and second-hand shopping destinations across Selkirk. Printed copies are also available from locations around the town.

By encouraging people to choose second-hand, repair and reuse wherever possible, the trail highlights how communities can play a meaningful role in reducing waste while supporting local organisations and businesses.
