The Arches Arts and Creative Hub SCIO has submitted a Community Asset Transfer request to Scottish Borders Council for the Wilton Centre (also known as “The Arches”), located at 36 Princes Street, Hawick TD9 7AY. This application is made under Part 5 of the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015.

What’s Proposed

The SCIO aims to assume responsibility for the Wilton Centre, a much-loved local community venue. As part of the statutory process, Scottish Borders Council is opening a public consultation to gather feedback from the community.

How You Can Have Your Say

Residents and stakeholders are invited to comment by Sunday, 11th January 2026. Feedback may be submitted via:

Please mark all correspondence clearly as “Asset Transfer Request”.

Why Your Feedback Matters

Under the Community Empowerment Act, the Council must seek the community’s views on such requests. They want to ensure that any transfer aligns with local priorities and that proposed plans resonate with the people who use the facilities. Your input will:

  • Offer valuable insight into community sentiment
  • Help The Arches Arts and Creative Hub tailor their plans more effectively
  • Ensure transparency and inclusivity in local decision-making

Who Should Take Part

This consultation is open to everyone, regardless of background – especially those with an interest in services for children and young people, or older residents. It presents an opportunity for the community to contribute directly to the future of a key local asset.

Borders Community Action encourages everyone in Hawick and the surrounding Teviot & Liddesdale area to share their views. This is your chance to shape the future of The Arches Arts and Creative Hub and support the continued use of the Wilton Centre as a vibrant community space.

To participate in the consultation and view supporting documents – including the public notice, the full asset transfer application, accompanying materials, and the Council’s acknowledgement letter – visit the Scottish Borders Council consultation portal.

Deadline for comments: Sunday, 11th January 2026.
