Ellen Halliday, now a Trustee, first got involved with Girlguiding as a young leader at the local Rainbow Unit. Ellen however hasn’t stopped there; volunteering not only for Girlguiding but also committing her time to Act 1 Youth Theatre Group, Burnfoot Community Hub and within the local Primary School. As well as taking part in local festivals when the opportunity arises, or her help is sought plus using her skills in administration to act as secretary for two local charities.
A much-loved member of the community Ellen thoroughly enjoys all her volunteering activities and the friends she has made, noting that her skills in timekeeping have grown enormously as well as her knowledge base due to the training needed in the various roles. Ellen knows that volunteering is so vital in her community and others across the region, recognising that without volunteers’ community and local run events wouldn’t go ahead.
Ellen believes anyone given the opportunity to volunteer in a Trustee role should just say yes adding “The skills I have gained being a part of volunteering opportunities are giving as much as I can back in to the community. I can share experiences, knowledge and in general inspire members to be the best they possibly can be and empower them to know that even if challenging, they can do anything”.
